Players Experience Reduced Raid Loot in Season of Discovery Phase 3

April 14, 2024 3 minutes

As players continue to conquer the formidable Sunken Temple raid, they have noticed a significant change in the amount of loot they are receiving compared to previous Phases. While each boss now drops more items, the increased player requirement and altered lockout cadence has left many wondering if the development team has made an oversight.

The WoW community, not ones to stay silent, have taken to various platforms such as Reddit, Twitter, and the official forums to voice their concerns about the Sunken Temple loot situation. One concerned player even took the time to break down the numbers, suggesting that the Sunken Temple bosses should drop up to 10 pieces of loot to compensate for the larger raid sizes and weekly lockouts.

It's no secret that the current loot drop average for each boss in Sunken Temple falls below 6 items. Taking into account that some players may have multiple lockouts per week, the number of drops per boss would need to increase to at least 8 or 9 items to address the issue.

In response to the community outcry, WoW Classic Senior Game Producer, Josh Greenfield, acknowledged that the team had indeed considered increasing the loot drop quantity per boss. However, after careful consideration, it was decided that such a change would not align with their vision for the raid and its loot distribution.

Moving forward, the development team aims to provide players with valuable loot from a variety of sources in future Phases. They plan to include rewards from crafting, PvP, reputations, dungeons, and additional quests similar to the popular "The Wild Gods" questline.

"The Wild Gods" questline introduced a systemic change where players could obtain 5 or more items from a single quest, as well as set piece tokens dropping from every boss. This not only accelerated the gearing up process but also presented players with alternative options to progress besides raiding. The team did experiment with even more drops per boss, but it began to feel excessive and detracted from the overall raid experience. Instead, the focus is on offering multiple avenues for players to gear up at level 60, including crafting, PvP, reputation grinding, dungeons, and potentially the introduction of more deterministic systems akin to "The Wild Gods".

Final Thoughts

After multiple lockouts and considering the current state of Sunken Temple's loot distribution, it's clear that this issue has struck a chord within the WoW community. The expectation to reach BiS (Best-in-Slot) gear before the Phase ends may seem a bit elusive at this point.

However, it's important to remember that WoW Classic is an evolving project and the development team is actively seeking ways to improve the gameplay experience. The inclusion of loot from various content types in future Phases is a step in the right direction and shows that the team is listening to player feedback.

What are your thoughts on the Sunken Temple's loot distribution? Do you believe it's possible to achieve full BiS gear before the Phase concludes? Share your opinions and experiences in the comments below!
