PvP Honor System Enhancement for Resolving Dishonorable Kills - WoW Classic

September 10, 2023 2 minutes

Blizzard recently addressed an issue in World of Warcraft Classic that allowed players to abuse Dishonorable Kills on Classic Era realms to gain additional rank points. This exploit involved intentionally downranking by earning dishonorable kills, which resulted in quicker progress towards the next rank threshold. To combat this issue, Blizzard has implemented a fix that will take effect on the week of Tuesday, September 12th.

The Dishonorable Kill Exploit

In higher ranks, some players were intentionally earning dishonorable kills to lower themselves below their current rank threshold. By doing so, they could gain credit for an additional rank bucket, allowing them to progress faster than players just above that threshold. This manipulation of the system was not intended, and Blizzard recognized the need to address it.

One player, Xfour, voiced concern over the unintended benefits of dishonorable kills for their rogue character. They questioned the fairness of such actions and expressed their hope for a solution.

Addressing the Issue

Blizzard acknowledged the problem and explained their plan to rectify the situation. Instead of rewarding players with credit for the entire rank bucket, they have implemented a change that ensures players only earn points for the amount they are missing from that bucket. This means that players will no longer benefit from lowering their rank via dishonorable kills to progress faster.

The fix was applied during the weekly reset on Tuesday, September 12, resolving the issue once and for all. From now on, weekly PvP contribution calculations will only award points up to the amount needed to reach the next rank threshold. Players will no longer be able to exploit dishonorable kills for additional rank points.

  • Additional Changes

Alongside the fix for the dishonorable kill exploit, Blizzard also identified and resolved an issue with the Honor reward for Alterac Valley marks turn-in quests. The reward was unintentionally doubled, causing imbalance in the game. With the implementation of the fix, the honor reward will return to its intended value.

Final Thoughts

Blizzard has taken swift action to address and rectify the dishonorable kill exploit in World of Warcraft Classic. By implementing changes to the way rank points are calculated, they have ensured fair progression for all players. The fix, along with the resolution of the Alterac Valley mark turn-in quest issue, has restored balance within the game. Players can now focus on enjoying the PvP experience in a fair and competitive environment. Regardless, you can rely on WowCarry to help with your journey in Classic WoW.
