WotLK Classic: Wrath Classic 3.4.3 PTR ICC Testing and Quest Tracking

September 15, 2023 3 minutes

Blizzard has recently released an update for the Wrath of the Lich King Classic Public Test Realm (PTR) and shared some additional Development Notes. The focus of this update is the Icecrown Citadel raid, with the testing schedule set from September 15th to September 20th. As part of this testing phase, the Random Dungeon Finder (RDF) feature will be temporarily disabled to ensure a smooth testing experience.

The Icecrown Citadel Raid

The Icecrown Citadel raid in World of Warcraft Classic is a challenging endeavor that pits players against the might of the Lich King himself. With this update, all bosses and wings of Icecrown Citadel are available on both Normal and Heroic difficulties in both 10 and 25 player raid sizes. The raid testing period begins on September 15th at 2:00 p.m. PDT and will conclude on September 20th at 11:00 a.m. PDT.

ICC Bug Fixes and Adjustments

  • The doors leading into Icecrown Citadel have been fixed and players should now be able to enter the raid normally once it unlocks.
  • The Volatile Experiments encounter, which is part of the Professor Putricide fight, now properly creates Gas Clouds as intended.
  • The Unbound Plague debuff, also part of the Professor Putricide encounter, now correctly jumps to nearby players as intended.
  • A bug that caused players to constantly see their own Frenzied Bloodthirst visual effect during the Blood Queen Lana'thel encounter has been fixed.
  • A visual issue during the Deathbringer Saurfang encounter has been resolved, where the blood power missiles were not appearing to fly back from affected players to Saurfang.
  • Deathbringer Saurfang will no longer cast Boiling Blood on the entire raid, fixing a rare occurrence of this issue.
  • A bug that caused the Necrotic Plague debuff to bounce to unintended non-player targets during the Lich King encounter has been addressed.
  • A visual issue with the RP event that occurs after defeating Deathbringer Saurfang, where Varok Saurfang carried his son like a wheelbarrow, has been fixed. This adjustment improves the overall atmosphere and seriousness of the scene.
  • The Frostwing Whelp trash mobs leading up to Sindragosa will no longer float upward after being killed, resolving a visual issue.

New Quest Log and Quest Tracking

A new feature called Quest Tracking has been introduced, allowing players to better navigate and track their quests. To access this functionality, open your quest log (default hotkey: L), select a quest from your log, and click "show on map". This will open your map and display markers and area blobs to indicate the location of your quest objectives. Alternatively, opening the map (default hotkey: M) and selecting a zone with active quests will also activate the quest tracking feature. You can toggle this feature on and off by opening the map and checking or unchecking the "Show Quest Objectives" checkbox.

Please note that the implementation of this feature is still being refined, and there may be a few bugs and missing functionalities. The current known issues include:

  • The Minimize/Maximize feature is not fully implemented, so the only available map view is currently in fullscreen mode.
  • Some dungeon quests do not open the map when you click "Show Map" from the quest log, either displaying no map or opening your current zone's map.
  • The highlighted quest may remain on the last selected slot instead of the last displayed quest in certain situations.

To address a critical bug, the Random Dungeon Finder functionality has been temporarily disabled on the 3.4.3 PTR. The development team is actively working on a fix and will notify players once it has been resolved.

The updated Wrath of the Lich King Classic PTR brings exciting new developments to the Icecrown Citadel raid, as well as the introduction of the Quest Tracking feature. Players can look forward to testing their skills against powerful bosses and immersing themselves in the gripping storyline of World of Warcraft Classic.
