September 15, 2023 4 minutes

Hey there gamers! Today, we have some exciting news to share with you. MMORPG.com recently had the opportunity to interview Crash Reed, the Lead UX Designer, and Taylor Sanders, the Assistant Lead Encounter Designer, about the upcoming Dragonflight Patch 10.2 - Guardians of the Dream. They delved into the details about our journey into the Emerald Dream and the thrilling updates coming in Season 3. Allow us to summarize the most intriguing talking points from the interview for you.

Exploring the Vastness of the Emerald Dream

Get ready to immerse yourself in a truly remarkable experience as we venture into the Emerald Dream. This time, we're not just touching the surface but exploring one small part of the dream in a more complete manner than ever before. Although it would normally span multiple zones, our focus will be on an area approximately the size of the Ohn'ahran Plains.

Lead UX Designer Crash Reed expressed tremendous excitement about this venture, stating, "I am super pumped. Playing WoW since the beginning, even in Warcraft III, just all the discussions of the Emerald Dream and how cool it can be. My wife plays a Druid; it's all she ever talks about. It's just one of these amazing experiences, that I think we are lucky to be able to share with the players right now. With that, it's gonna come with some really cool things for the player to do."

One of the exciting activities players can look forward to is participating in the new Superbloom public event, where they will assist Druids in protecting the world tree and helping it to grow. The event involves various activities assigned by a wandering ancient named Sprucecrown. Players will battle Druids of the Flame, nurture the tree, and even receive temporary power-ups to enhance their abilities, making them feel exceptionally empowered during the event. As an added bonus, players will also have the opportunity to acquire a brand-new Faerie Dragon dragonriding mount early on in the campaign.

Moreover, players will be tackling the new renown track with the Dream Wardens while saving Amirdrassil from Fyrakk. This track follows a similar concept to the Niffen in Zaralek Cavern. Although there is no confirmation if it will contribute to the Valdrakken weekly renown quest, it certainly adds an extra layer of excitement to the gameplay.

Engaging Storylines

Prepare yourself for captivating storylines in Patch 10.2. A notable storyline involves Vyranoth and Wrathion forming a kinship with each other. Hailing from different dragon flights, they eagerly seek out new allies. These alliances extend to the Thorignir Storm Dragons of Stormheim and the Netherwing of Outland, two groups that also face challenges fitting in with the primary dragon flights. Witnessing their unique bond unfold will surely be an intriguing experience.

Season 3: Dragonriding and Fierce Encounters

For Season 3, we have an exciting new raid that takes place in the magnificent Amirdrassil, the fledgling tree. Assistant Lead Encounter Designer Taylor Sanders explained the rationale behind this choice, saying, "It was only natural that a portion of the raid focuses on and around the tree. We have a really cool dragonriding encounter where players will be able to fight one of our coolest characters; he's a druid of the flame named Tendral Sageswift. Players will be zooming around the boughs of Amirdrassil using their dragonriding mounts during the encounter."

If that's not enough to get you thrilled, there will also be various dragonriding skins available, and players will have the opportunity to acquire the Fire Owl mount from the final raid boss. What makes this mount particularly special is the fact that it is the first non-dragon mount to utilize a new "dynamic flying" system, making it a truly unique and sought-after prize.

When it comes to Mythic+ dungeons, we don't have any plans to update the affixes for Season 3. However, the developers are keen on gathering more information through PTR testing of the new dungeon rotation.

Lastly, we have some exciting news for those seeking a little extra boost. The Revival Catalyst will be available right from the start of the Season, ensuring players can seize the opportunity and get a head start on their adventures.

Final Thoughts

With Patch 10.2 and Season 3 just around the corner, World of Warcraft players have a lot to look forward to. The journey into the Emerald Dream promises to be an unforgettable experience, while the engaging storylines and thrilling encounters in the new raid will keep players on the edge of their seats. So gear up, sharpen your blades, and prepare to embark on an epic adventure like no other!
