Request for Input on Upcoming Modifications to Classes - Exploration Season

April 18, 2024 3 minutes

Hey there, fellow gamers! It's WowCarry here, ready to dive into some exciting news about the upcoming Season of Discovery in Classic. Senior Game Producer Josh Greenfield, also known as Aggrend, recently reached out to the community on X, formerly known as Twitter, to gather feedback on the upcoming class changes in the new season. The Season of Discovery team has been hard at work listening to player feedback and is now seeking further input to fine-tune the game's balance in Phase 4.

Class Adjustments and Feedback

Greenfield, or should I say Aggrend, mentioned that the team has been diligently working on a large list of class adjustments that will be implemented soon. However, he emphasized that while these changes won't satisfy every player's wish list, the team is committed to iterating and improving the game based on valuable feedback.

Aggrend shared that the team has been gathering ideas and suggestions from various discords and forums. Although these sources are helpful, he found it interesting to directly ask the community for their input through a few targeted questions. He made it clear that not every suggestion can be executed due to various reasons, but he encourages the community to keep the conversation civil and respectful.

Feedback Questions

Aggrend presented some specific areas where the team is seeking feedback:

  • 1. Shadow DPS Improvements

The team aims to increase the damage output of Shadow DPS while still highlighting their group utility. Considering the upcoming additions for level 60, the team wants to restore the importance of mind flay in the toolkit. What ideas do you have to enhance Shadow DPS while keeping these goals in mind?

  • 2. Survival Tree for Hunters

Aggrend acknowledged that many melee hunters desire a more prominent survival aspect to their playstyle, aligning with the "RPG ranger" class fantasy. Currently, Beast Mastery tends to overshadow Survival in terms of raw output. How do you think the team could make Survival more appealing and interesting with some exciting adjustments?

  • 3. Holy Paladins

The team recognizes that Holy Paladins lack intriguing abilities compared to other healing classes. Although they excel at level 60 in vanilla, the Season of Discovery expansion leaves room for improvement. One discussed possibility is a group heal or proactive heal mechanic for Holy Paladins. What concise ideas do you have to enhance the Holy Paladin gameplay?

  • 4. Sword Rogues

While adjustments for Saber Slash and other sword gameplay are in the pipeline, Aggrend is open to additional suggestions to make sword rogues more engaging. It could involve simply increasing damage output or exploring other adjustments that enhance the overall "feel" of the gameplay. What ideas do you have to make sword rogues more compelling?

  • 5. Warriors and Rage Mechanics

Rage, a critical mechanic for Warriors, poses challenges due to its infinite loop nature, where more damage leads to more rage, resulting in even more damage. This issue becomes more pronounced at level 60. Aggrend admitted that if they could start over, they would consider normalizing rage from the beginning and focusing on significant gameplay changes for Warriors. However, now they are seeking input: What would you propose as a suitable trade-off for a normalized rage mechanic at level 60?

Exploring New Possibilities

Before wrapping up, Aggrend emphasized that the team is open to innovative ideas for any class, including concepts that don't solely borrow from future expansions. The development philosophy has shifted, and they are eager to experiment with entirely new mechanics that fit within the classic ecosystem. Although future expansion spells might still be considered, there is a willingness to broaden the horizons and explore fresh approaches.
