Not Even Close - Mythic+ One Shot Calculator Reviewed

February 01, 2024 3 minutes

As players strive to conquer higher levels of Mythic+ dungeons this season, they are faced with a new obstacle - the challenge of surviving unavoidable damage. In addition to dealing enough damage to beat the timer and interrupting dangerous casts, players must also have sufficient health and mitigation. To assist players in preparing for this daunting task, Ortemist of Zul'jin has developed an incredibly useful utility called Not Even Close.

Introducing Not Even Close

Similar to previous tools used in past seasons, Not Even Close is a damage calculation addon that helps players determine the damage output of highly dangerous Mythic+ abilities based on player stats, buffs, and external abilities. With this addon, players no longer have to rely on guesswork to determine whether a dungeon is feasible or what defensive measures are required to survive and protect your key.

  • How Does Not Even Close Work?

Not Even Close features a user-friendly interface. To get started, simply set the key level and affix, and choose a dungeon with preset abilities or create a custom instance by filling in the relevant fields. The only missing piece is your own character's stats and toggled buffs, which can be manually inputted or imported using the in-game addon to capture the necessary information.

On the right side of the tool, you will find vital information regarding your character's effective health. Not Even Close will inform you whether your character has enough effective health to survive a particular encounter, how much overkill or leftover health there is. Players can experiment with various buffs to determine their impact on survivability. For optimization purposes, group leaders can even add multiple characters to assess the overall party's defensive needs, identify who requires the most assistance, and assign the most effective use of external buffs.

"I created Not Even Close because I was tired of constantly guessing whether my group would survive abilities like Soulrend in Atal'Dazar or Shadow Bolt in Black Rook Hold. I wanted to optimize our defensive strategies to minimize resource consumption while still avoiding being one-shot," says Ortemist, the creator of this remarkable utility.

Although Not Even Close is an exceptional tool, it is important to note that it is a fan project that is regularly updated and may not guarantee complete accuracy. As mentioned in the instructions, certain factors such as the Phial of Tepid Versatility need to be added manually, and armor is currently not calculated at all (although it can be added as a Custom DR). Additionally, the tool may not calculate every ability, especially those with obscure or randomized mechanics. However, it does provide a solid starting point that can save players a significant amount of time, guesswork, and inevitable frustration when tackling higher level Mythic+ dungeons. To seek assistance or provide feedback, players are encouraged to join the project's dedicated Discord community.

Conclusion

While armor calculation can be inconsistent and technically challenging, it is fortunate that the majority of dangerous mechanics in Mythic+ dungeons ignore this stat anyway. Not Even Close serves as an invaluable tool for players, offering them a calculated approach to surviving intense encounters, optimizing defensive strategies, and ensuring a successful run. Whether you are a seasoned Mythic+ veteran or a newcomer to the challenge, Not Even Close is a must-have utility to elevate your gameplay and conquer the most treacherous dungeons Azeroth has to offer.
