Primal Storms Availability - Decreased Spawns, Concentration in Azure Span and Waking Shores

March 29, 2024 2 minutes

With the renewed interest in completing Primal Storms due to the introduction of the thrilling A World Awoken meta-achievement, players are encountering challenges with one particular aspect of this achievement - completing Primal Storms in different Dragon Isles zones. This achievement, known as Storm Chaser, is part of the larger Into the Storm and Across the Isles achievements in A World Awoken. As we discussed earlier this week, Storm Chaser requires players to conquer sixteen unique Primal Storms, each representing a different type of storm in the original Dragonflight zones. While this task may seem achievable at first glance, there are two factors that make it significantly more difficult now - the reduced number of storms and their inconsistent distribution.

The Impact of Storm Nerfs

When Dragonflight was first released, there were an abundant number of storms available for players to tackle. However, over time, these storms were reduced in number, possibly due to the addition of various activities in patch updates. Initially, there were always two storms active, as shown in a screenshot from Patch 10.0. However, at some point, this number was reduced to just one storm at a time.

The Issue with Storm Distribution

While the reduction in the number of active storms poses a challenge, the bigger issue with Primal Storms lies in their distribution. It is unclear why, but currently, there is a higher likelihood of a storm spawning in The Waking Shores or Azure Span. Looking at the data collected by the community-driven Lord of the Reins discord server over the past six days, we observed the following storm distribution on EU servers:

Zone Number of Storms
Thaldaszus 4 Storms
Ohn'ahran Plains 5 Storms
The Waking Shores 7 Storms
Azure Span 30 Storms

A similar situation is occurring on US servers, with an even higher rate of storms spawning in The Waking Shores. These imbalances in storm distribution have fueled frustration among players, leading to numerous complaints on official forums, Reddit, and our own comment section in response to our previous post. Hopefully, Blizzard will address these issues promptly by either balancing the number of storms per zone or implementing a fixed rotation system so that players can anticipate and participate in the specific storms they require.
