World of Warcraft's Post-BlizzCon Q&A Session Now Available

November 10, 2023 4 minutes

Blizzard has recently released a Q&A session with several members of the World of Warcraft team, including Ion Hazzikostas, Bethany Stout, Morgan Day, and more. In this session, they answered questions from the community and provided insights into the current state of the game, as well as what players can expect in the future.

Upcoming Expansions and Updates

During the Q&A, the team revealed that they are currently working on a roadmap for the game's future, which is expected to be released in 2024. This roadmap will outline the upcoming expansions and updates that players can look forward to. In the meantime, three more updates are planned after Patch 10.2 before the release of the highly-anticipated expansion, War Within.

The team also discussed their approach to expansion packs and stated that they are focused on adding value to all levels of the game. They mentioned that they have considered various options, including early/beta access, to enhance the player experience. Additionally, they assured players that WoW expansions will continue to follow the traditional format with new zones, dungeons, levels, and raids.

New Features and Enhancements

  • Dynamic Flying for Druids

In the upcoming 11.0 update, Druids will receive a highly-requested feature - Dynamic Flying in Flight Form. This will allow Druid players to seamlessly transition between ground travel and flying, providing increased mobility and convenience.

  • Profession Updates

Professions will also see some improvements in the future updates. The team is introducing new spec points to enhance the Professions system, as well as exploring the possibility of increasing the availability of crafting orders through NPCs. They are actively listening to player feedback and are working on refining the transmog system to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

  • Warbands and Account Features

Warbands, a new gameplay feature, will be introduced in War Within. While players cannot opt out of joining a warband, the team mentioned that some options might not be available as part of the warband experience. Additionally, warbands will span across a player's Battle.net account, allowing characters from different WoW accounts to be in the same warband. However, multiboxing players may encounter restrictions on shared warbound systems, such as accessing the bank with only one character at a time.

Quality of Life Improvements

The team recognizes the importance of quality of life improvements and addressed several concerns raised by the community.

  • Bag Space and Trading Post

One common concern was bag space, especially with the increasing number of activities in the game. While the team acknowledged the issue, they emphasized that the solution lies in limiting the amount of items players are required to carry, rather than continuously expanding bag space.

The Trading Post, a popular feature, will be carried forward into the upcoming expansion, War Within. This will allow players to engage in trading and commerce with ease.

  • Server Compatibility and Customization

The team expressed their commitment to make server compatibility a non-issue, allowing players to play with their friends regardless of the server they are on. They are constantly working on improving cross-server functionality to offer a seamless experience.

The team also understands the importance of customization in the game and assured players that it is a priority. While no specific plans were mentioned, they will continue to add more options as they are ready and as they align with the vision of the game.

Future Storytelling and Lore

The team clarified some misconceptions regarding future expansions and storytelling. They stated that there is no time travel involved in the upcoming expansion, Midnight/The Last Titan. Instead, the focus will be on revisiting iconic locations such as Silvermoon, Quel'Thalas, and Northrend, showing how these areas have evolved over time. The team wants to keep the Warcraft universe fresh and relevant, and will update these areas to include dynamic flying.

Dragonflight and Updates

The team also shared details about the upcoming Dragonflight update. In this update, players will experience exciting new features, including the ability to ride dragons during quests. Additionally, they mentioned that the Archaeology triangulation minigame will not be returning but assured players that they are exploring other ways to uncover Azeroth's history. One such feature is the Azerothian Archives, which will dive deep into the lore of the world.

Overall, the Q&A session provided valuable insights into the future of World of Warcraft. Players can look forward to exciting new expansions, gameplay features, and quality of life improvements in the coming updates. The team at Blizzard is dedicated to delivering a captivating and immersive experience for all players.
