Gameplay Notes for Season of Discovery: Exclusive High-Level Content Unlocked in Later Phases

December 02, 2023 2 minutes

A new announcement from Blizzard has provided some clarification on the upcoming PvP system in WoW Classic Season of Discovery. According to the bluepost, PvP will be capped at Rank 3 during Phase 1, and certain items and activities will be unavailable until later phases.

Rank Cap and Unavailable Items

During Phase 1 of Season of Discovery, players will only be able to achieve a maximum rank of 3. This means that the highly sought-after Arena Master and Arena Grand Master trinkets will not be available during this phase. Additionally, the Tidal Charm trinket, which is normally obtained from Prince Nazjak in Arathi Highlands, will not drop in Phase 1.

It's also important to note that certain runes, which will be introduced in future phases, cannot be obtained during the current phase. Similarly, world chests located in high-level zones will not spawn until later phases.

Stranglethorn Fishing Tournament

One of the most anticipated events in WoW Classic, the Stranglethorn Fishing Tournament, will not start until Phase 2 of Season of Discovery. Players who are brave enough to venture into Stranglethorn Vale at level 25 can participate in the tournament without needing to bring a fishing pole.

This information comes in response to concerns from players who plan to focus on ranking up in Season of Discovery. The introduction of caps for each phase aims to allow players to progress at a reasonable pace without feeling pressured to rush for high PvP rewards.

Rank Cap Progression

The rank cap will increase with each new phase of Season of Discovery. Initially, the cap will be set at rank 3 for players starting in Phase 1 at level 25. As players reach level 60, the rank cap will gradually increase, starting at rank 9 for the first few weeks. Subsequently, the cap will continue to rise every few weeks alongside the release of level 60 content such as Blackwing Lair. Eventually, the rank cap will reach 14 with the opening of The Temple of Ahn’Qiraj.

Blizzard is excited to witness the PvP action that will unfold during Season of Discovery and hopes that these new adjustments will enhance the player experience.
