Wowhead Economy Update 316

February 25, 2024 3 minutes

Hello! Welcome to the 316th edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up! This week we look at monthly results from gold making in both retail and classic from two very different perspectives. We also have some reports on investments in Phase 2 Season of Discovery and opportunities ahead for the Darkmoon Faire! My name is WowCarry and I'll be your guide through the World of Gold Making!

A Month of Gold Making (DF/Retail)

It's always interesting when people report back on how they made gold for a month and u/ScienceNye is no exception with a great writeup of how they made gold in retail through a combination of farming, world quests and Shadowlands mission tables. They shared their experience and strategies for maximizing gold making:

  • The farming of raw materials:

ScienceNye had several alt characters dedicated to gathering resources such as ore, herbs, and leather. They focused on optimizing their gathering skills to increase efficiency. Some key tips they shared include:

  1. Using dragon riding to mine while on your mount for faster gathering
  2. Focusing on collecting elemental resources as they tend to have higher value
  3. Keeping track of overloading nodes using weak auras

They also recommended the Zaralek caves as an ideal farming location due to the abundance of mining nodes and the opportunity to gather valuable spores. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of investing in skinning skills and utilizing weekly quests to improve their gathering abilities.

  • World Quests:

ScienceNye highlighted the significance of completing gold-granting world quests. They mentioned that each dragon riding quest grants around 525g and can be completed quickly. They also noted that normal gold-granting world quests are worth around 625g and can be even more valuable if the dreamsurge bonus is active. They recommended checking for gold quests in areas where the bonus is active and taking advantage of elite world quests worth up to 820g.

  • Shadowlands Mission Table:

ScienceNye explored the passive income potential of the mission table in Shadowlands. They found the Night Fae covenant to be the best choice for this type of gold making. They suggested using the TLDR missions addon to automate mission starting and prioritize self-sustaining missions that provide anima. Additionally, they mentioned the profitability of selling old gear and Polished Pet Charm missions.

Overall, ScienceNye was able to earn a total of 1 million gold in the month through farming, world quests, and mission table activities. They expressed surprise at the success of these methods without relying on crafting and mentioned plans to further optimize their gold making strategies.

Darkmoon Faire in Season of Discovery

Seren Games shared a video discussing potential gold making opportunities during Phase 2 when the Darkmoon Faire arrives. They highlighted the differences between the Faire in Classic and Retail and provided insights into potential profit-making activities during the event.

Season of Discovery Investments

This section focuses on retrospectively examining investments made in Phase 1 in preparation for Phase 2. The author acknowledges that not all investment advice given by the majority has proven successful. They discuss their experience on their server and provide analysis of various materials and their value during the initial stages of Phase 2.

They found that recipe prices decreased due to stockpiling or leveling changes, while some herb investments did not yield profitable returns. However, investments in thick leather and bolt of mageweave proved successful. Truesilver bar investments performed well if sold before the release of Phase 2, and superior health potions and greater mana potions had decent profitability. The author notes that the absence of significant inflation affected the value of investments.
